Support for Parents – Relationships and Changing Me Curriculum

At Trewirgie Infant School, we believe that parents and school work best when we work in partnership. To support this, we provide access to information about the Relationships and Changing Me units taught during the summer term. These materials help families understand what their children will be learning and how these themes are approached in the classroom.

We know that some parents may have questions about aspects of the Changing Me unit, including the lessons identified nationally as sex education. Our school policy clearly sets out which lessons fall into this category and whether the optional Year 4 lesson on conception is included in our curriculum. Where adaptations are made to meet the needs of our pupils, these will be explained to parents so that the content is transparent and easy to understand.

To support families who would like to review the lesson content, we can provide a secure link giving access to the planning for the current or upcoming unit. This is available on request and is intended to help parents feel informed and confident about what their child will be learning.

We continue to encourage parents to engage with us directly. Seeing the materials in person and discussing them with staff often provides helpful context and allows any questions to be addressed quickly and clearly.

For copyright and safeguarding reasons, access links are shared only with individual parents who request them and are not published on newsletters or public platforms. This ensures that materials are viewed appropriately and that we can follow up with families who may need further support.

This approach helps us meet national expectations for transparency in the Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) curriculum while maintaining a supportive, respectful partnership with all parents and carers.

Peaceful Problem Solving

When children have had a disagreement they find the peaceful problem solving area, discuss the issue and how they can solve the problem.
